When a driver takes to the roads, he or she is taking a series of risks. Many of these dangers can be mitigated by a driver’s own actions and choices, which can decrease the likelihood that an accident may take place. However, there are instances in which a car accident is unavoidable, no matter how careful or conscientious one driver may be while on the road. A recent crash in Connecticut underscores the dangers of road travel, and may result in criminal charges.
Upon early investigation, authorities believe that the crash took place in the early morning hours of a recent Sunday. Two vehicles collided on Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield, leaving both drivers and one passenger in need of medical treatment. The accident remains under investigation as those involved receive medical care for their various injuries.
A 50-year-old woman who was driving a Honda Accord complained of chest pain and an arm injury. She was taken to an area hospital for assessment and treatment of those injuries. Two young men, both 19 years of age, sustained far more serious injuries as a result of the crash.
When police arrived at the scene, both men were found outside of the other vehicle. One was laying face down and unresponsive. He sustained a broken neck, brain damage and other broken bones in the crash. A second young man was found in the surrounding woods, also with a broken neck and multiple other fractures.
There is no word yet as to the cause of this car accident, nor of any criminal charges that may result. However, once Connecticut authorities have determined which party was at fault in the matter, criminal charges could result. Depending on whether the young men survive their severe injuries, additional legal action may be taken in civil court, in the form of personal injury or wrongful death suits. Should police determine that the other driver was the victim in this terrible crash, she could also pursue a personal injury case.
