Although reasonable care and a willingness to follow traffic rules is always necessary when a person decides to get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, extra caution is necessary during the winter, when road conditions may be much more treacherous. If a person decides to drive too speedily for the road conditions in Connecticut, this may be considered negligent driving. Unfortunately, this type of behavior can easily result in a fatal motor vehicle accident.
In a recent incident in Connecticut, a single-car crash occurred at night. The collision led to the deaths of two people. Meanwhile, a third person suffered injuries. It is unclear if the driver was one of the two people who lost their lives in the tragedy.
Police said that it appeared that the driver was speeding before the accident occurred. The driver then apparently lost control of the vehicle, according to authorities. The road conditions could have also contributed to the accident because the ground temperature was below freezing as well.
In this scenario, the individual who was driving and reportedly speeding might be held financially responsible for the injuries and/or deaths stemming from the motor vehicle accident. Speeding may be considered driver negligence, and if it is established as a causal factor in the crash, evidence of this may be used to establish the driver’s financial liability in a Connecticut civil court. An injured victim may choose to file a personal injury claim to seek reimbursement of monetary damages tied to the crash, while the family of a dead passenger might file a wrongful death claim in this case. Even if the driver perished in the accident, the suits may be filed against his or her estate, as well as against anyone else who separately owned the automobile involved in the collision.
