As a person rides in a friend’s vehicle, he or she may primarily be focused on enjoying the moment to bond while listening to music or catching up on the day’s events. The passenger usually doesn’t contemplate that he or she is literally putting his or her life in the driver’s hands. Just one mistake on the part of the driver, such as speeding or taking one’s eyes off the road, can easily cause a serious auto accident that may cause injury or death in Connecticut.
A vehicle crash recently occurred on Wilbur Cross Parkway. The accident happened when a 29-year-old man was driving near a rest stop. He suddenly left the roadway and hit a guardrail on his right.
The automobile flipped and hit a tree, police said. The vehicle then came to a rest on the driver’s side. The driver was ejected and hit by another car, resulting in his death at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, the two passengers in the vehicle suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital.
The individuals who were injured in the vehicle accident have the right to file personal injury claims, seeking monetary damages to help to ease pain and suffering resulting from the injuries sustained in the auto accident. Even though the driver of the car died in the crash, lawsuits may still be filed against his estate and against any separate owner of the car he was driving when the crash occurred. To prevail, financial responsibility for the accident must be established according to Connecticut personal injury laws before a civil court will consider specific items of financial damages claimed to have been sustained in the crash.
