Alcohol may help a person to become less tense and to forget his or her worries temporarily. Although it can be a positive part of someone’s week in Connecticut, it also can be a detriment if a person decides to drink and drive. This is because this drug hampers a person’s coordination skills and ability to judge distances. This can quickly cause an auto accident involving serious injuries or worse.

In a recent case, police said a man caused an accident involving three vehicles. The Connecticut crash occurred on Route 44. The 44-year-old man ended up crashing into a minivan while turning left from the highway.

The minivan turned over. The driver and two passengers in the van suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital. A third vehicle was involved in the crash as well, and its driver also was taken to the hospital. The driver of the first vehicle was charged with driving while under the influence at the time of the wreck.

The man who is deemed to have caused the multi-vehicle crash will have to respond to his criminal charge. However, he also may face lawsuits filed by the injured parties in the auto accident. The injured individuals reserve the right to seek reimbursement of monetary damages connected to the crashed, based upon a showing on negligence by another party to the tragic situation. Liability must be established according to strict guidelines before a civil court will determine claims for monetary damage based upon financial losses sustained as a result of the crash.
