Many Connecticut teenagers look forward to Friday nights — a time to hang out with friends, see a movie or watch a high school athletic contest. However, one seemingly normal Friday night can turn into a tragic one as the result of pedestrian accidents. This type of crash can easily occur if a driver fails to pay attention to the road or is speeding.
An accident recently occurred on a Friday night when a 15-year-old female student was hit by a car in Ridgefield. The accident happened at just about 9:30 p.m. The girl suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital.
She ended up dying there, according to police. The driver remained at the scene of the crash, where authorities interviewed the individual. The girl, who was a sophomore in high school, was a dancer. Ridgefield High School, where the victim was a student, canceled an upcoming play performance due to the tragedy.
The person who struck the pedestrian may face legal challenges in the form of a wrongful death lawsuit. This is because the family members of victims of pedestrian accidents reserve the right to sue the driver who is deemed responsible for the crash. Pedestrians are especially at risk of serious injury or death when hit by motorists because they virtually have no protection against large vehicles. The fatal accident victim’s family members may seek the reimbursement of financial damages stemming from the crash. A civil court in Connecticut may rule in their favor if liability is established to its satisfaction.
