Riding in a vehicle with a driver who is careless behind the wheel can quickly have deadly consequences on a Connecticut highway. A fatal single-car crash recently occurred in our state, understandably causing shock and disbelief for the families and loved ones left behind. A 19-year-old and two people in their early 20s ended up passing away in the tragic auto accident.
Police said three men were in a vehicle on Route 82 on a recent Thursday when it left the roadway at about 1 a.m. The automobile then hit a tree. Two men ended up being ejected from the vehicle, according to police.
All three of the men died at the accident scene. The mother of the oldest victim said that her son was a recent university graduate and was trying to get into graduate school, with the goal of becoming a teacher. He also had a girlfriend. Meanwhile, the grandmother of the victim who was 22 years old said that he had a sister. Police continued to investigate the reason for the collision.
If the evidence suggests that the individual who was driving the car was acting negligent in a manner that brought about the crash, the family members of the two passengers may decide to file wrongful death claims. The suits can be filed against the estate of the dead driver and/or against any separate owner of the car he was operating at the time of the accident. In their lawsuits, the deceased passengers’ surviving loved ones may seek monetary damages to help pay for expenses and other financial losses tied to the auto accident, including funeral costs. If there is proof that the driver was speeding or failed to abide by another rule of the road, this may help to establish financial liability under Connecticut wrongful death laws.
