When people are enjoying an afternoon stroll near the street, they may be concerned about being struck by a vehicle. Although motorists are constantly encouraged to exercise caution around pedestrians, pedestrian accidents can still happen due to driver negligence or recklessness. Three pedestrians in Connecticut were recently injured after being struck by a pickup truck.
The accident took place on a recent Tuesday afternoon after 1 p.m. The three people who suffered injuries were 18, 23 and 43 years old. The crash occurred when a teal truck struck the three individuals as they were trying to cross the street.
The truck driver then proceeded to drag the three victims as he continued driving. One witness said the driver appeared suddenly and didn’t look like he tried to stop after plowing the group. Another witness said it looked as though the driver dragged the three individuals about 50 feet.
This witness said he tried to stop the pickup truck by blocking its path in his own van. The three individuals suffered cuts and broken bones. None of the injuries were deemed life-threatening. Charges have not been filed against the pickup truck driver, who is 32.
The driver did not appear to have a medical problem or be intoxicated, police said, and the man was cooperating with authorities. The three individuals who were injured have the right to file a claim against him, seeking damages that can help them to pay for their hospital bills and other losses resulting from these types of pedestrian accidents. If a judge in Connecticut determines that the pickup driver caused the accident due to his own negligent conduct, he may be held liable for the injuries.
