When a person is killed in a pedestrian accident, this can affect not only the victims’ family members but also the entire community. It can be difficult to come to terms with such life-altering pedestrian accidents in Connecticut. This type of accident in our state unfortunately took the life of an elderly woman who was on the side of the road recently.
The accident occurred on a Tuesday evening. The woman, who was 87 years old on the date of the accident, was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Her condition at the time was considered to be critical; she ended up passing away, authorities said.
The woman was trying to get her mail when she ended up being hit by a vehicle on the road. The man who allegedly struck her suffered no injuries and was 88 years old. It doesn’t appear that the man was speeding or was intoxicated, police said; they also didn’t believe he suffered some type of medical condition at the time of the wreck. Poor visibility in the area may have contributed to this crash, as the accident scene is around a hilltop curve. Charges have not been filed in the crash.
The family of the pedestrian who died in the crash may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the motorist believed to have caused the crash in Connecticut. If the man happened to be distracted while driving or is found to be negligent in another way, he may be held liable for the victim’s death. Losing a loved one in a pedestrian accident can cause the surviving family members to suffer emotional distress. Financial restitution from a claim that is fought successfully can help to address these and other losses related to pedestrian accidents and recognized under our state laws.
