Motorcyclists are at risk for getting seriously injured or even dying in vehicle crashes because they don’t have much protection against other larger vehicles in the event of a collision. This is one reason why motorists must exercise extra caution when navigating near bikers. One person recently died in a bike accident in Connecticut.
The fatal crash happened at a little past 10 a.m. on a recent Sunday. A man said to be 48 was operating his motorcycle while heading south. At that time, a car struck him, according to police.
The car was driven by a woman said to be 88 years old. The woman was attempting to turn left when she hit the motorcyclist, authorities reported. No other major injuries occurred as a result of the crash, police said. The area was shut down while police continued to investigate the wreck.
The woman who allegedly struck the motorcyclist might be held financially responsible for his death. This is because the motorcyclist’s family may decide to file a wrongful death claim against her, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages that can help to cover her burial costs and other expenses tied to the bike accident and recognized under our state laws. Liability must first be established via competent proof submitted to a civil court before financial damage claims will be considered. Although monetary compensation may not restore a dead victim’s life in Connecticut, it may make it easier for the deceased person’s loved ones to experience closure and move forward with their lives.
