Losing a loved one in a vehicle accident can be a person’s worst nightmare, and unfortunately, this nightmare is a reality for one family in Connecticut. A recent motor vehicle accident took place past midnight on a Saturday. It occurred in Berlin on the southbound side of Route 9.
Police said a 22-year-old man was operating a vehicle and suddenly lost control of it. The car then left the roadway and ended up striking a light post. Police reported that the automobile hit a wall of rock and flipped over multiple times as well.
The female passenger in the vehicle, said to be 19, was thrown from the car. She was taken to the hospital and died there. Meanwhile, the car driver was taken to the medical center for evaluation. Police continued to investigate this serious crash.
In this tragic motor vehicle accident case, the surviving loved ones of the woman who died have the right to file a wrongful death claim against the man who was reportedly driving the car at the time of the accident. The family may pursue the reimbursement of monetary damages incurred in the accident, such as burial expenses, hospital costs and other financial losses. If it can be established that the man was not obeying a rule of the road or was engaging in another form of negligence, evidence of this may be used to try to establish his liability.
