One family in Connecticut recently received the tragic news that a loved one passed away in a head-on vehicle collision. The horrific motor vehicle accident took place early in the morning on a Saturday. It happened on Route 66 in Middlesex County.
According to police, one car was going east on the roadway shortly after 2 a.m. A sport utility vehicle was going in the opposite direction. The two vehicles ended up crashing into each other.
The road on which the accident reportedly occurred is narrow and winds through a big rock embankment. The road was closed for a couple of miles while police investigated the crash. One of the drivers, said to be 73, died in the collision. Authorities continued to investigate the accident.
A police investigation may reveal which driver was allegedly at-fault in the head-on motor vehicle accident. If the surviving driver is found to have caused the accident due to negligent behavior, such as failure to maintain one’s lane or speeding, claims for financial relief may be pursued by the fatal victim’s surviving family in a Connecticut civil court. The family may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the surviving driver and any separate owner of the vehicle he was operating, seeking damages that may help them to cover financial losses tied to the accident, such as funeral costs and loss of income. In this type of case, it is essential to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that the death happened because of the negligence of another party to the crash.
