Pedestrians in Connecticut and elsewhere are particularly susceptible to serious injuries and even fatality in car accidents because they have no protection against the vehicles that strike them. Unfortunately, the family of one woman is mourning her death following such an accident in Greenwich recently. The family members of victims who are killed in pedestrian accidents are entitled to seek justice when the evidence suggests that death was the result of the negligence of another party.
The accident took place on a Tuesday morning. Police said the woman was crossing the street at an intersection. The woman, said to be 51, was with a coworker at the time. They had just gotten off a bus.
Police reported that a northbound car was traveling on an outer lane on Route 120A and struck the woman as she was crossing the roadway from the western side. The accident happened shortly before 7 a.m. The woman suffered serious injuries and was transported to Greenwich Hospital, . The person driving the car suffered no injuries, and no criminal charges were filed in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
The family members of the woman who died in the accident may elect to file a wrongful death claim against the individual who was driving the car and allegedly caused the accident. They may seek damages, which — if awarded — may help the family to cover burial costs, any loss of wages and other monetary damages typically awarded in fatal pedestrian accidents. Competent proof of negligence is mandatory in order for liability to be established in a Connecticut civil court, and if liability is appropriately established, a judge will determine claims for specified items of financial damages.
