Motorists have a responsibility to exercise care on the road, particularly when navigating near pedestrians. Pedestrians lack the protection afforded to those riding in vehicles, which is why pedestrian accidents can lead to serious injuries or even the loss of life. One person was recently hospitalized following this type of accident in Connecticut.
The accident occurred on a Saturday night at an intersection. Police responded to the crash at about 7:30 p.m. According to police, a car had hit a woman, said to be 27 years old.
The woman was taken to a medical center for treatment of her injuries. At first, the injuries appeared to be minor. However, doctors later discovered that she had actually broken her hip as well as several bones in addition to suffering several other injuries. Police continue to investigate the crash.
The woman who was hit by the car may accrue hefty hospital bills as a result of the accident, and she may also be unable to return to work for a lengthy period of time while healing from her injuries. She has the right to file a personal injury suit against the driver whose vehicle struck her. If there is proof that the driver was negligent — such as driving too quickly or operating a vehicle while distracted — this evidence may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to establish the driver’s liability.
