Multiple people suffered injuries in a recent Connecticut vehicle accident. The head-on accident took place on a Friday in late January on Connecticut 34. According to authorities, three different vehicles were involved.
Police said one car was going east and ended up going over the middle line at an intersection. As a result, this vehicle hit an oncoming car head on. A 46-year-old man was driving the eastbound car, while a 24-year-old woman was driving the other vehicle.
Police reported that the man’s car then spun around and ended up back in the lane going east. His car hit a third automobile driven by a 32-year-old individual. This vehicle was carrying three children. A total of seven people suffered injuries deemed not to be life threatening and were transported to the hospital. Police issued the man driving the first car a citation in connection with distracted driving, as well as failing to drive right of center.
The man who drove the first vehicle may be held responsible for all of the other victims’ injuries in the three-vehicle collision. As demonstrated in similar cases, failure to maintain one’s lane and distracted driving may be considered negligence behind the wheel. Proof of a citation issued to a negligent driver may be presented in a civil court proceeding in an effort to establish that driver’s financial responsibility in a head-on accident. If liability is adequately established, a Connecticut judge will determine if claims for monetary damages are valid.
