A pedestrian accident can easily happen when a motorist fails to pay attention to his or her surroundings, is distracted, is driving drunk or is driving too quickly. Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents often lead to life-threatening injuries or even death for the pedestrians. One woman in Connecticut recently lost her life in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident.
The Connecticut accident took place early on a Saturday evening in late February. According to police, a woman, 61, was crossing the street. All of a sudden, an automobile struck her.
The person who was driving the vehicle reportedly fled the accident scene. Authorities were still searching for the motorist at the time of the report. The woman suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital, where she died. The road where the accident took place remained closed while authorities investigated the collision.
If the driver of the vehicle that left the crash scene is found, he or she may face criminal charges in connection with the fatal accident. However, he or she might also face civil liability issues if the surviving loved ones of the woman who died in the accident decide to file a wrongful death claim against the driver. In situations such as this one, family members may seek the reimbursement of monetary damages resulting from a crash, which may help to cover a loved one’s funeral costs, loss of support and other expenses related to a hit-and-run pedestrian accident. Competent proof of negligence is required to establish a driver’s financial responsibility in a fatal wreck.
