Pedestrians are a higher risk of suffering serious injuries in car crashes because they lack the protection offered by a motor vehicle. Unfortunately, one pedestrian was recently hurt in an accident involving a car in Connecticut. If driver negligence is found to have caused these types of accidents, victims of pedestrian accidents have the right to seek to hold accountable the drivers that struck them.
The recent pedestrian accident took place on a Wednesday evening in mid-February. Police reported that the crash happened at about 6 p.m. near a shopping center. A car ended up hitting a pedestrian, and the driver of the car remained at the crash scene.
Emergency crews were able to treat the injured pedestrian at the accident scene. The individual was then taken to the hospital. The victim’s current condition is not known. Officials said the driver of the vehicle was cooperating with authorities, and police continue to investigate the accident.
Pedestrian accidents can lead to a wide range of injuries, ranging from neck injuries to injuries to the spine, brain or back. These injuries can be expensive to treat and may even force a person to miss work for an extended period. A person who is injured in this type of accident may choose to file a personal injury claim with a Connecticut civil court against the vehicle’s driver, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages. A preponderance of evidence is needed to prove that the driver’s carelessness — such as speeding or driving while distracted — caused the person’s injuries.
