A recent accident in Connecticut led to the death of one man, leaving the man’s family members reeling in grief. The auto accident, which also caused injury to another person, happened a little after 11 a.m. on a Friday. The crash involved two vehicles.

According to officials, a man, 87, was driving in the area of an intersection. All of a sudden, his vehicle was struck by a pickup truck. A man, 22, was driving the truck.

After the crash, the older man remained trapped in his vehicle until firefighters could rescue him. Both he and the younger driver suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital to receive treatment. The older man, who had suffered serious injuries, ended up dying from his injuries. Meanwhile, the younger man suffered an arm injury. Police continue to investigate the accident to determine fault.

When these types of vehicle crashes occur in Connecticut, a deceased victim’s family members may have legal rights. For example, the family might be able to file a wrongful death claim against the driver believed to have caused the accident, and this may enable them to receive damages to offset the costs tied to the accident. For example, damages may be awarded for funeral arrangements and burial expenses and the loss of companionship as well as help to address pain and suffering along with the emotional distress caused by the auto accident. If and only when liability is established in a manner that satisfies the civil court will claims for monetary damages be adjudicated.
