Two teenagers recently died in a tragic vehicle accident in Connecticut. The motor vehicle accident happened along Interstate 84. The two individuals who died were 14 and 16 years old.
A 16-year-old girl was driving a car at about 2 p.m. on a Tuesday. All of a sudden, her car turned over on the interstate going east. The vehicle then rolled down an embankment and ended up striking a tree. Both the driver and the passenger were killed in the crash.
According to police, both of the teens had on their seatbelts. However, the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy. The teen driver had just gotten her learner’s permit about three months before the crash. According to state law, a person with his or her learner’s permit is allowed to drive only with a driving instructor, parent or another adult over 20 years old who is providing driving lessons. Police were not sure why the girl left the roadway.
The family members of the teen passenger who died in the Connecticut crash may choose to file a wrongful death claim in this case. Even though the teen driver who reportedly caused the accident ended up dying, the owners of the car she was navigating — or her parents, if applicable — may be held liable for the passenger’s death. The family may seek damages, which — if achieved — may help to cover their loved one’s burial costs and other expenses related to the accident. A monetary award may also help to address emotional distress caused by the motor vehicle accident.
