A community in Connecticut is currently grieving the loss of one young person following a fatal accident involving pedestrians. Pedestrian accidents often occur when the driver of a vehicle is not paying attention to the road and the surrounding area. If someone is injured or dies as a result of the driver’s carelessness, the motorist may face civil claims for financially responsibility regarding the accident.
The recent Connecticut crash occurred on a Thursday. A vehicle operated by a 23-year-old woman was headed west on a local street shortly before 9:30 p.m. The car struck two pedestrians who were crossing the street from a store parking lot. The pedestrians were both 17 years old.
One teenager was taken to the hospital but died shortly thereafter as a result of the crash. Meanwhile, the second teenager suffered serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where her condition was considered critical yet stable. Both of these teens recently graduated from high school.
The driver of the car may face liability claims in this Connecticut accident case. The injured party has the right to file a personal injury claim, seeking an award of monetary damages incurred and to be incurred. The surviving family of the deceased teenager may choose to file a wrongful death claim, pursuing damages that — if awarded — will help them to cover the teenager’s burial costs and other monetary losses typically linked to these types of pedestrian accidents. Liability, based upon proof of driver negligence, must be established by appropriate evidence before the court will adjudicate claims for damages.
